I was reading about cheap domestic built, all solid wood, handcrafted mandolin. At first, I was thinking that it must be some carved top basic mando. But then I researched a bit on their top model M-4. There were so many compliments about the simple & unique design and of course the wonderful sound that it gives. That kept me interested in Big Muddy formerly known as Mid-Mo mandolin. So I emailed the Luthier/Owner Mr. Mike Dulak and see what he can do. I received his call yesterday. He offered me a deal which is quite reasonable given it's going to be a order-to-build project for him. I was more interested with the M-3 which has walnut on sides and back. The rosewood that he's using Pau Ferro is not exactly a rosewood. But anyways I took his word, he said he has some really nice walnut before I said anything about rosewood. It's really a fraction of cost for some locally made carved top mandos. About the same price as my current mando! It'll take Mike two weeks to finish building one for me. He's quite friendly and with a sense of humor too. He joked about it's going to take 29 years to make one for me...:O
