I just finished watching season 1 of the Unit. My honest opinion is, not every episode is that great. There were some that are really exciting fueled with strategies and actions. There were some that are plain simple as body guards and securities. But at the end, it's usually surprising.
I love the episode: Dedication. The location of mission took place in Afgan region. I don't want to spoil the mission for you here. But I can say, the little detour carried out nicely. Plenty of gunfire exchanged. This is totally what i'd been expecting on the show. I was very pleased and satisfied.
I got a list of stuff that I think it might improve the show whether they want to continue or create another similar show:
- More blood, no blood means no realism. The Wounded/KIA had no blood on either costume or on the ground.
- Add a time stamp on the missions, even X-Files has time stamp on every change of scene
- Not enough intro or pilot on the show
- Re-write the wives part, so it has more harmony to the show. Perhaps CBS really like Desperate Housewife. I do not know.
- The only story that's flowing is the families/wives part. In other words, next episode is always a new story for the Unit guys. It might be a good thing, since it's more like a short movie.
- Needs some central bad guys on the terrorists/rebels side. You really want a goal of some kind. In order to get to that bad guys you need to tackle this group of people, and proceed to another..etc. End goal is to eliminate the bad guy. So far there's nothing like this. It's make the Unit story getting nowhere. Instead of showing the wives, maybe they can show the bad guys and see how they're planning and such. (On the episode, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, there's absolutely no follow-up on who planted the bomb...)
- I enjoy the chatter during their mission and whatever Jonas directs his team doing.
- Fast paced action on some episodes. Plenty of exchange in gunfire
- Re-creation of the scenes in foreign countries
- Unseen before military gadgets and tools
- Surprises at the end
- Kim Brown is cute
