After reading this blog: http://www.jawjab.com/20-reasons-why-vista-sucks/
I decided to write my testimony for Vista after almost a year of usage. I know no one would ever read it but I know at least it's something that's worth sharing and pointing out. Here's what I posted:
You are right with a lot of things. I know you don't copy those negative things about vista from others. Many attractive/eye-catching things don't do any good (ex. sidebar consume more usage on RAM...). Just my opinion here, I actually don't think the sidebar is useful. The thing is if you set it always on top, it's going to take up some space. If you don't set it always on top, you'll never use it.
I actually think that there's "Open with..." in some file formats. I've to check it again when I back home.
I had problem with IE7. It literally won't let you close that application. Until I do a little research and find out restoring to default would work. I'd been using firefox since 2003. The only thing that I don't like about firefox is that, it doesn't pick up some plug-ins that it supposed to be. That's the only few times that I've to open up IE7 to browse stuff. Also...gee...you can't uninstall IE7 if you have vista...
I agreed with you on the start menu and windows explorer interfaces. The structure of it changed a bit. It's actually more difficult to navigate.
The security thing whenever you run any application is annoying..but yea you don't want to turn it off..
The voice recorder in vista is just the dumbest piece of software I've ever seen. The one in XP is much better.
Forgot to mention my computer is a Gateway desktop FX 2.4ghz core 2 duo, 2gig ram, 460ish gig hard drive, 512 mb geforce graphic card with Vista Home Premium. I compared browsing capability side by side with my older Gateway laptop AMD 1.8 ghz, 2 gig RAM and some ATi laptop graphic card with XP media edition. Clearly, XP outperforms Vista even my laptop got a lower spec.
Oh here comes the pain, Media player in Vista Home Premium won't let you play some of the DVDs. It's due to some piracy protection. I've to use VLC or PowerDVD to play it. As you know none of the later two comes with adjustable EQ.
There're goods in Vista don't get me wrong. Like the column control allows you to adjust the volume individually for applications that make sound. However, I found it not smart enough to recognize all applications over time.
The Wireless network detection is worse than XP. It happened to my home network countless times. Trust me, my XP had everything up and running while Vista won't find any network UNTIL I reboot the whole darn thing.
If you've had gone to DivX's stage5 like the Youtube video site, you'd know that DivX would reset your Aero theme to normal theme which you know it's quite annoying...
My laptop has that Vista ready laptop on it. But I tried Vista on it. It's just not ready for all the Aero stuff. My desktop was quite laggy after all.
I'm not that type of person who tweak a lot of things in windows. I generally do what a normal person do to a PC; web surfing, listen to music, watch videos, play games, play with photos. I had been using Windows since I ever know how to use a PC (it was Windows 3.1/95 around that time). I didn't have choice but to use Windows. I thought that was the only thing that you'd get when you buy a computer. Until I got my hands on some iMac and G4 in college. I found out that using a computer can be quite refreshing. Now even better with Leopard. Lots of user friendly features that make things neater, easier and faster. I finally can't resist and get myself a MacBook.
Am I the only one doing this switch around this time?
